The quality is fine but the quantity short. There are very few medium roses to be had and the same may be said of carnations. Bulb- ous stock is plentiful but moving regu- larly. Harrisii lilies are meeting with good demand. Lily of the valley was scarce for a few days. Lilacs, both pur- ple and white, have been in demand dur- ing the week. Red tulips are coming in more abundantly now. Greens of all kinds are scarce. J. B. Murdock & Company are build- ing a new brick boiler house. The two 200 horse-power boilers are now placed in position. They have also concluded arrangements for the switch that will run to the greenhouses. Charles Hinkle and David Geddes joined the Pittsburg party for the car- nation convention, who left Tuesday evening. Mrs. E. C. Ludwig and Mrs. B. L. Elliott accompanied their husbands to the convention. The Pittsburg Cut Flower Company had occasion to assist some Philadelphia florists recently. There seems to be a shortage on that market. They have also shipped carnations to New Orleans. Charles Siebert has been experimenting with a new natural gas burner for green- house purposes. It has proved a success in many ways and Mr. Burki has pur- chased two. A. W. Smith decorated the Union Club on the occasion of the opening reception. E. L. M. LooMis, Cal.—A.
