View NE of a stone wheel-pit on the W bank of the River Alyn which held a water-wheel used to power pumps in the Glan Alyn lead mine at Loggerheads, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. Built in 1870 the 40ft x 6ft wheel was powered by water diverted from the river via a cut water-course (leat). To drain the mine workings (Pen-y-garreg shaft) on the E side of the river, water was pumped up from 165ft below ground level. The mines closed in 1878 & have been sealed up since c 1900. The wheel-pit is close to the wooden bridge over the River Alyn in Loggerheads Country Park.
