Next comes thephotograph of a Gold-finchs nest, with itseggs. This particularnest was placed on ahorizontal bough of anapple tree; but thegoldfinch generallybuilds more at the endof the branch. Some-times the bird selects ayew tree; its nest israrely found in hedge-rows. The one in thephotograph wasabsolutely hidden fromthe sight of onestanding below andlooking up at the bough. The photograph of the Books nest showsonly two eggs, as it was taken before thebirds had finished laying; there are generallyfour or five eggs, but these are too wellknown to need description.
