Hire boat goes aground in Restonguet Creek. High tide is not due to float them off until 03AM and bad weather is expected. Volunteers expertly rescue them across the mud flats on a purpose built inflatable sledge. Torrential rain and darkness make the rescue by MCA volunteers tricky. The MCA volunteers use purpose made mud shoes to stop sinking into the soft mud. It would be fatal for the boat crew try walking ashore across the soft mud. They would become entrapped and drown in the rising tide. Further to wait to float off on the flood tide in the darkness would require specialist knowledge to navigate back to Falmouth in the pitch black, strong wind and torrential rain
