Mårup Kirke Maarup Church Vendsyssel Lønstrup Denmark Mårup Church dates back to the 13th century and is one of the very first brick church in this Northern part of the Denmark The big ship anchor is from the British frigate The Crescent which stranded on the coast out of Mårup in 1808 226 sailors where buried at the little church Two other British ships stranded St George and Defence In 1895 the British Admirality raised a memorial tablet with this text To the memory of the Officers and men who perished on the occasion of the wreck on this coast of His Britannic Majesty s Ships Crescent 36 guns on the 6th December 1808 and St George 98 guns and Defence 74 guns on the 24th December 1811 Many of whom were interred in this Churchyard This tablet is inscribed by the British Admiralty in the year 1895
