Lana’i North Shore - Shipwreck Beach - Hardy Spider

On the north shore of the Hawaiian Island of Lana’i, is a remote area known as Kaiolohia AKA Shipwreck Beach. It is an area of strong winds and rough seas. It is also a graveyard for ships that have been sunk here both accidentally and on purpose. The access is not paved so it is highly recommended that you rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle to go here. This spot has excellent views of Moloka’i and Maui. There are petroglyphs and other points of interest to explore. Vegetation is sparse, probably because of the strong trade winds but some plants manage to survive. Here a hardy spider tends to its web despite the windy conditions.
