Archaeological excavation. Worker holding a micro-fossil that was found by sieving breccia (rock fragments) from the the Sterkfontein caves in South Africa. Many micro-fossils, including rodent bones and teeth were found in this material. Numerous early hominid remains have been found at these caves, which were declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. The remains are thought to belong to Australopithecus, early Homo, and Paranthropus species.
