A German hunting crossbow, 17th century Heavy iron prod with a woven lanyard and woollen tassels, later hemp bowstring, retained by cords. Slightly bulgy tiller with carvings at the sides, the upper and lower surfaces with bone inlays and finely engraved with decorative scrollwork and tendrils on the top, and depictions of a hunter and the Birth of Venus at the lower side. Original, finely chiselled iron aperture sight. Bolt-clip is missing. Multi-axle lock with iron trigger guard.
