Wardwell and others, designated asCompany F, and attached to the FifthRegiment, , commanded by Colo-nel Samtiel C. Lawrence. He servedtherein all the engagements in which the-Regiment participated., and was musteredout and honorably discharged at expira-itionof term of service July 31, 1861. September 3, 1861, he re-enlisted inCompany B, Twenty-Second RegimentMassachitsetts Volunteer Infantry, andwas mustered out Januarj 21, 1864, toaccept the appointment of First Lieuten-ant and Adjutant of the Thirty-vSeventhRegiment United States Colored Troops,and served therein tintil Septemljer, 1864,when he contracted malarial fever and wassent to the hospital at Hampton, Va.,where he was honorab
