When the sup-posed Mr. Dean was presented to the bank officials, his bearingwas so businesslike and engaging that he was cordially wel-comed as a customer, and the superintendent who introducedhim was privately thanked for the particular favor which hehad rendered. Mr. Dean did not expect to call for any discounting of hisown notes, as he said, and presumed that his standing depositwould soon be from twenty to thirty thousand dollars.
