Orders having been issued from headquarters First Brigade foran election to be held on May 17th, for Lieutenant Colonel of theSixth Regiment to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation ofLieutenant Colonel Clyde, Major Brazer was nominated withother candidates in the field, one being the Fencibles former Adju-tant, Lumb. On the evening of the election the companies of theSixth held a caucus, excluding the Philadelphia companies fromparticipating; as a result, the eight company officers of the oldSixth decided on one man, and the result of the election was, that r. S. 1900 ANNIVERSARY—PRESENTATION 349 Captain Cornwall won by a vote of 17 to 13. After the electionfor Lieutenant Colonel they held an election for Major and electedAdjutant Lumb. As the 87th anniversary was approaching it was intended by theCommanding Officer to make the usual parade on that day, butowing to the events of the past month it was indefinitely was decided by the officers to have a banquet on that occasionwhich was attended by a large number of the old members. Dur-ing the evening they decided to reorganize the Old Guard, toassist the active Battalion in perpetuating the organization andclaim the rights it was justly entitled.
