Construction of part of La Courondelle, a new housing development on the outskirts of Beziers in southern France.
La Courondelle is a new district being constructed on the northern side of Beziers. When completed it will contain approximately 700 dwellings together with local services, schools and parks. There will be two neighbourhoods with extensive landscaped areas. The development is intended to meet an urgent need for extra housing while curbing urban sprawl and providing a new focus for the northern part of the city. The photograph shows construction of the 'Bimini' project - a BBC low-energy building consisting of 54 apartments together with car parking. BBC Effinergie houses are buildings that meet the requirements of a French law of 2007 which specifies maximum energy consumption levels for new residential buildings of 50 kWh/m².year (adjusted according to regions and altitude).
