The winter of 1890-1891 was very severe, and hunting was stopped on November .26tli by severe frost and a fall of snow. On December 8tli hunting was again prevented by frost for seven weeks, and on the night of the 22nd the thermometer stood at two degrees below zero, and there were twenty degrees of frost during the whole of the next day. On January 23rd the thermometer was again below zero. On many nights in succession there were from twenty to twenty-five degrees of frost.
