ROSEATE * ROSEATE This elegant bird inhabits thesea-shores of America, from themouth of the river Amazon toFlorida or Georgia. It is oftenseen up the Mississippi in thesummer season. It wades ordives about in quest of shell-fish,insects, and various kinds ofsmall fish. This bird is of a beautiful pinkcolor, with a mixture of black atthe lower part of the neck. It isabout the size of a heron. Thebill is about eight inches longand has the shape of a spoon. The nest is placed on hightrees, near the water side. Theylay three or four white eggs, andof the size of those of a are very noisy duringbreeding time, like our rx>ks. 8
