At the throne, Ceres, goddess of agriculture, is with a corn sheaf and a sickle. On the right the seated Mercury with the caduceus in his hand. Two putti bend over a building plan in the foreground. In the background ships on the water. Allegory at the first meeting of the 'Oeconomic Tak' established in 1777 of the Dutch Society of Sciences in Haarlem. This branch of society aimed through annual prizes trade and holding out of their decay.
