Ritter, the firstissue appearing January 28, 1868. Jesse G. Hawley became the sole owner of the DailyEagle in November, 1874. February 25, 1877, Mr. Hawley began publishing a Sundayedition of the Eagle, which has gained a large circulation. It was started as a folio, but itnow com:prises 22 or more pages. After the death of Mr. Hawley, April 19, 1903, theBeading Eagle Company was formed ^^?ith Kate B. Hawley (widow of Jesse G. Hawley),President, and John W. Bauch, Secretary and Treasurer. The officers o£ the Reading EagleCompany now are : William Seyfert, President; Edwin A. Quier, Vice-President; John , Secretary, Treasurer and Superintendent.
