Austria. This is the DAV Section Berlin Hochjoch Hospiz mountain Hut 2413m in the Oetztal Alps above the village of Vent in the mountains of the Austrian Tyrol. The hut is named after the adjacent mountain pass the Hochjoch. The original hut of 1869 is on the opposite side of the valley in the centre of the image. This was damaged several times by avalanche. Closed during the First World War it was plundered and eventually abandoned. Today all that remains are remnants of walls. The present hut was built in 1927, opening in 1929 on the initiative of D&OeAV Section Mark Brandenburg of Berlin.

The hut is named after the adjacent mountain pass the Hochjoch on the border with Italy and the South Tyrol, the Alto Adige. The hut is owned by the German Alpine Club Sekttion Berlin. The hut is popular as a crossroad to other mountain huts in the region. The original hut of 1869 was built on the opposite side of the Rofental valley. This was damaged several times by avalanche. Closed during the First World War it was plundered of its goods. and eventually abandoned. A final avalanche completed the huts destruction when the roof was lost. Today all that remains are remnants of walls seen here on the far side of the valley in the centre of the image. The present hut was built in 1927, opening in 1929 largely on the initiative of D&OeAV Section Mark Brandenburg of Berlin. Its a very good hut and one of the best in the Oetztal.
