Studded entrance door of one of the towers of Porta Soprana, medieval city gate of Genoa, Liguria, Italy

Porta Soprana or Porta di Sant'Andrea was one of the entrances to the city of Genoa. Built in 1155, it's one of the most important medieval structures of the city. In reality, the gate already existed at the time of the second Genoese city walls (circa 880), but the current appearance was given to it during the construction of the third city walls (Walls of Barbarossa, 1155-1161), when were completed the three doors with two towers: Porta Soprana, Porta Aurea (no longer existing) and Porta di Santa Fede (also called Porta dei Vacca).
