He was born in Saybrook Aug. 14,1809; and lived in that part of Saybrook which was sub-sequently incorporated as Essex, the homestead being nearthe Ivoryton post office. He was an ivory worker, andbuilt up the ivory manufacturing concern of Comstock,Cheney & Co. She died at Ivoryton Oct. 10, 1877; and hedied at Wilmington, N. C, Jan. 18, 1878. Their childrenwere born at Ivoryton, as follows: I. George Hovey, bornOct. 24, 1839. He is connected with the Comstock, Cheney& Co. business; and lives near the Ivoryton post office inEssex.
