During the Feast of Lupercal or Lupercalia, Mark Antony, Caesar’s deputy, offered Julius Caesar a crown on three occasions, and Caesar refused it, because he did not want the people to think he was a king. Julius Caesar was the Roman leader in 44 BC, until he was killed when the power automatically went to Marc Antony as he was Caesar's co-consul.
