Hechanged thename of thehouse, HotelWonolancet,and conduct-ed the establishment successfully for afew years. He resumed the study of law in the of-fice of the late Col. Thomas J. Whipple,and after being admitted to practice,became the partner of this widely-knownattorney, and upon Colonel Whipplesdecease in 1SS9, Judge Beckford suc-ceeded to the large practice. Judge Beckford has always been anactive Republican, and has generallybeen upon the stump during most of. Judge Frank M. Beckford. the political campaigns since attaininghis majority. He represented Laconia as a memberof the last constitutional convention forthe state of New Hampshire, was ap-pointed justice of the Laconia policecourt in 1892, and held the positionuntil 1895, when he resigned; electedsolicitor of Belknap county in 1896, andre-elected in the fall of 1S98, which office he nowholds. Judge Beck-ford is prom-inent andtakes gr e a tinterest inthe vari o u sfraternal so-cieties. Heis a memberof Mt. Bel-knap lodge,K n ights ofPythias ofLaconia, andis also am e m b er ofthe Supremelodge, andholds theposition ofsupreme rep-resenta t i v efor this statein that or-der ; he is am e m ber ofChocorualodge, I. F., of La-conia, and Pontahaum Tribe of RedMen, being a member of the GreatCouncil for New Hampshire, and is amember of Laconia Commandery, U. C, L
