Polyhedron geometry. 19th-century artwork of various polyhedrons in 3D form and folded out to form 2D surfaces. These 2D surfaces of regular polygons are known as the net of the polyhedron (or polyhedral nets). At upper left is a regular tetrahedron, formed from a net of four triangles. Next to this is a cube, formed from a net of six squares. The octahedron next to the cube is a net of eight triangles. At top right is a dodecahedron, with its net of twelve pentagons at lower centre. At lower left is an icosahedron, with its net of twenty triangles at lower right. Artwork from 'Encyclopaedia Metropolitana' (1845).
