Reed bed at Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve overlooked by Usk Powerstation South East Wales UK GB

Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve is wildlife habitat situated on part of the Gwent Levels, on the eastern edge of the city of Newport. It was created on the site of storage lagoons for pulverised fuel ash from the neighbouring Uskmouth Power Station and flat grazing land, as compensation for the loss of mudflats of Cardiff Bay when the barrage was built. Covering over 438 hectares along the northern shore of the Severn Estuary the reedbeds, lagoons, wet grassland and scrub attract many wetland birds.
