Anglo saxon king in battle wearing a crown and a knee-length chain-mail tunic ("lorica"), a suit of armour reserved for royalty in the 8th century. He carries a yellow shield in his left hand and brandishes a sword in his right hand above his head. Beside him, his equerry wears a blue cloth hat and white tunic, and carries a white shield rimmed with scarlet.
