A common shell, but the valves are so equal that it can hardly be a Pterinea. Pterinea (sp. 2) exasperata, Salter, MSS. Long known, but not yet described. A reticulate species. Pterinea (sp. 2) var. coarser ridges. Pterinea retroflexa, His. (Siluria, 2nd ed. pi. 23, fig. 17). "Widely distributed over N. Europe. The ridges vary much and the form too. Pterinea, var. coarse imbrications. Pterinea tenuistriata, McCoy (Siluria, 2nd ed; Foss. 59, fig. 5). Pterinea demissa, Conrad, var. of P. fetroflexa. This seems to differ only in the squarer shape, and the lines of growth. Modiolopsis antiqua, Sow. sp. (Siluria, 2nd ed. pi. 23, fig. 14). A very narrow anterior end, the lobe small. Modiolopsis gradatus, Salter (Mytilus, Salter, Mem. Geol. Surv. Vol. II. Pt. 1, pi. 20, fig. 4). Sharp sudden imbrications of growth, the rest smooth. Modiolopsis mytilimeris, Conrad (Siluria, 2nd ed. Foss. 60, fig. 6). A very broad species— almost the shape of Ambomjchia. Numbers and Localities. a. 804, Dudley, F. C.; ? Wenlock Shale or Lower Ludlow. a. 839, anterior and poste- rior ear good, Dudley, a. 813, a. 814, a. 816, good left valve; a. 815, interior of same valve, Dudley, a. 817, Dudley. a. 805, a. 806, left valve; a. 807, right valve, Dudley, F.
