The man-made channel, now believed to be of Viking origin, linking the sea to Loch na h-Àirde, near Glen Brittle, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK
Loch na h-Àirde is just above sea level and it is believed that the loch was used for sheltering boats during the winter, as well as possibly building and servicing boats. It was an important site for maritime activity for many centuries, spanning the Viking and later periods of Scottish clan rule.
