Greek Muslims praying inside Yeni Camii (it means "New Mosque"), Komotini town, Rodopi prefecture, Thrace, is one of the 2 Greek prefectures (the other one is Xanthi, where almost half of the population are Muslims. They belong to the so called "Muslim minority" of Greece. After the defeat of the Greek army in Minor Asia in 1922, and following the Laussane Treaty, a population exchange between Greece and Turkey took place. Greek refugees from Minor Asia came to Greece and Turks-Muslims that were living in Greece took the other way around. The only that were excluded from this exchange were the Turks of Rodopi and Xanthi and the Greeks of Constantinople (Istanbul).
