The only material difference liesin the fact that the blow off trap is made adjustable so thatdifferent discharging heights may be obtained. The objections to this style of siphon are the same asthose already mentioned for double trap siphons. The life of theauxiliary is much shorter than that of the main trap, and beingembedded in the concrete is impossible to get at without removingthe entire siphon. DE LA HUNT -10- THE MILLER SIPHON• The Miller ia the only siphon now made that depends onneither exhaustion nor auxiliary devices for its operation andis generally acknowledged to be the simplest and most efficientform of siphon now in use. The vital part of this siphon liesin the free projection of the overflow edge of the short leg ofthe trap, and its function can easily be seen in the siphon proper consists of two parts, the discharging limb ortrap and the intaking limb or bellf the latter being placed overthe long leg of the trap and held in place by its own weight*Plate VII• The trap is first filled with water and the bell put inplace# The water being turned on in the supply pipe rises in thetank and when above tlie bottom edge of the bell encloses the airand puts it imder pressure as the water in the tank rises. Theconfined air gradually forces the water out of the long leg ofthe trap. Finally a point is reached when the confined air isjust about to escape around the lowe
