Geodes on limestone plateau. Geodes are spherical bodies of rock, created by minerals depositing out of groundwater in a limestone cavity. When the surrounding rock undergoes erosion, often only the geodes remain, because they are more resistant than the limestone to the processes of erosion and weathering. Photographed on the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean.
