SAN DIEGO (Aug. 16, 2018) From left to right, Capt. Rich LeBron, executive officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), Culinary Specialist Seaman Edward Curry, from Valdosta, Ga., and Capt. Larry McCullen, the ship’s commanding officer, cut a ceremonial birthday cake celebrating the 20th birthday of the ship. Commissioned Aug. 15, 1998, Bonhomme Richard is the third ship to bear the name, the sixth Wasp-class ship, and the last amphibious assault ship in the Navy commissioned in the 20th century.
