Lactobacillus paracasei bacteria, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Lactobacillus bacteria are probiotic bacteria, which are useful for human and animal health as they produce bacteriocins (toxins that kill off competitive bacteria), which prevents infection by pathogenic bacterial strains.
