Biofuelwatch & Campaign Against Climate Change protest against biofuels at Downing St on the day the UK RTFO came into force

The April Bio-Fools Day protest in London took ploace on the day that the UK government's mandatory biofuel blending under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) came into force and a demonstration opposite Downing Street was organised by Biofuelwatch and the Campaign Against Climate Change. Uusing land to produce agrofuels threatens the rain forest, including that in West Papua which has the world's second largest tropical forest. Demonstrators included members of of Denmak, the Papaun People's Tribal Assembly who are campaigning for a free West Papau, currently under Indonesian rule. Increasing use of land for biofuel production is already leading to food shortages and phigher prices. The UN predicts increased human rights abuses with 60 million people being forced of their land for biofuel production.
