South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK Bennane The entrance to the cave where Henry Ewing Torbet a banker from Dundee who lived as a hermit in the cave. Known as Snib Scott (1912 - 1983) while he was the resident of Bennane Cave, Ayrshire. A memorial cairn was erected by public subscription, constructed of stones from the shore by Mr Sparkhall of close by. The Cave is to the north of Ballantrae, on what is now the closed and by passed original coastal section of the A77, which has been rerouted and straightened to cope with the road traffic heading to Carinryan & Stranraer
