In botli sexes, however, ofhreddini the eyes are actually contiguous intero-posteriorly, whilein v)t)-eiis, even in the males, the interior margins of the eyes donot touch together. This character is constant in eight breddiniand thirty-seven vitreus that I have examined. {Kirlcaldy.) This is the only description of the species (without dimensions). Fig. 194. — Anisojjs ! hreddini. given by Kirkaldy, and as the peculiar structure of the eyes isfound in some Bengal specimens, one of which is here figured, Ihave concluded that those from Bengal and Celebes are the colour is greyish yellow, the abdomen black beneath excludinga central longitudinal yellow ridge, and there is a black spot nearthe coxae. It scarcely appears to be congeneric! Length 7 millim. Hah. Bengal; Port Canning, Dhappa, Calcutta {Ind. Mus.).—Celebes {fide Kirl-aldi/). At Dhappa found in fresli water; at Port Canning in brackishpools. 334 APPENDIX.— NOTONECTID^. Genus NYCHIA. Nychia, Stal, Freg. Enq. Rem, Ins. Hem. p. 268 (1859) ; id. iii, p. 190 (1865) ; Kirk.
