Let it be said, howewr, that any practicable method for ventila-tion of the submarine will be welcomed. Electric Ranges Are Be-coming PopularOXE of the most prom-ising de\elopmentsot the present time is theincreasing use of electricranges in the home. Thisis especially true in Canadawhere the rates are remark-ably low. In man\ cities, the price per kilowatt-houris less than three cents, andin some it is as low as onecent. The main objectionlies in the fact that an elec-tric stove installation is ex-pensive. Tearing out oldwiring and replacing it withnew is almost as costly asthe range itself. Thus the best and mosteconomical plan is to make the properinstallation when the house is first built. Using the Telephone on the Rifle Range. On the rifle range of the Georgia Slate Militia,at Augusta, scoring is done by a telephonesystem. A telephone in the firing pit is operatedfrom a central station box on the firing line; so isan iron buzzer-box in front of each target. Whenthe buzzer sounds, the target is pulled down, the shot located and another target set up At left, the telephone box on the firing line. Theoperator keeps in constant communication withthe men in the firing pit bj means of the tele-phone and the buzzers located one at each target Below, a busy firing line. As one target is pulleddown and the shot noted the target in the othersash goes up automatically, so that a target isalways in place above the pit. The buzzer-cordsto the pit are led through the pipe-line shown ptfj^i*^ ???*?
