The train journey from Colombo to ELiNDY, which wemade on the afternoon of the Saturday of our arrival,takes about four hours, and carries one through some ofthe loveliest scenery imaginable. It does not indeedcompare in grandeur or variety with the journey toDarjeeUng; for while Darjeeling is 7000 feet in height,Kandy is but 1600 feet.
