H. tenuicaule I H. williamsii is related to H. pachyphyllum and H. augustinii, having the same erect habit and elliptic-oblong to oblong sepals; but the leaves are broader below the middle and petiolate. In some respects ( longer stamens and usually entire sepals and petals) it is nearer to H. augustinii than is H. lobbii, but the thinner sepals with a hyaline margin and the obtuse flower buds are more advanced characters. 9(20).
