A church site from the 9th Century it was adopted by Augustinian Canons from St Quentin nr Beauvais The remaining structure dates mostly from 1150 to 1225 Surprisingly complete for a Borders abbey only the foundations of the monastic buildings remain but the nave and north transept of the abbey church are complete to the topmost head wall with impressive arcading a square crossing tower and large wheel window in the west gable The tower stands as rebuilt in 1504 to 1508
