Arsuk Village Greenland. "The Lighthouse Man of the Arctic", Lt. Comdr. Joseph W. Havlicek, pauses a moment in the arduous task of constructing the well known radio beacon and light station at nearby Kajartalik Island, to converse, probably by sign language, with the Greenlanders who reside at Arsuk. The one-room cottage in the background is typical of the native houses in Southern Greenland. The underpinning of the cottage illustrates the well known remark: "There are no flat places in Greenland". Mr. Havlicek resides in Arlington, Virginia.
