I found a beached humpback whale so alerted the authorities. They worked tirelessly all day trying to save it.

Whilst walking the dog late one evening I spotted a whale close to shore. I rang up NSW Parks and Wildlife and was told it was normal as they sometimes come close in to rub their bellies. Next morning at dawn I returned to the beach with my camera hoping to take some photo's of the whale if it was still around. Sadly I discovered it beached. I alerted the authorities and a rescue attempt ensued. For a while it was just me and the whale on that beach. Its huge eye looking at me and its tail flapping helplessly in the sand. It was a moving experience, one that I will never forget.
