Janschwalde Power Station near Cottbus in Lower Lusatia, Brandenburg, Germany. The power station fires raw brown coal from nearby open-pit mining operated by the Vattenfall, the Swedish state-owned power company. Approximately two dozen of Sorbian villages inhabited by the Lusatian Sorbs (Sorben) were demolished in order to clear the space for huge open pits.
