A BNSF line train hauls coal from the Absaloka Mine in eastern Montana, USA

Coal trains at least a mile long traverse the prairies of eastern Montana on a regular basis. This one carries coal from the Absaloka Mine on the Crow Reservation. This coal seam is found in the Powder River Basin, a huge geologic structural basin stretching from southeastern Montana through northeastern Wyoming, and known for extensive coal reserves.
