A statue of Martin Luther in Dresden, capital of the eastern German state of Saxony. Saxony was the first state to adopt his Reformation. The church behind him, the Frauenkirche, is Protestant. The church was destroyed during the firebombing of Dresden by the Allies in 1945 -- and was rebuilt and finally reconsecrated in 2006.
