John H., 60 years old, entered my service at the Boston City Hospi-tal on December 30, 1899. Diagnosis: old tuberculosis. One careful examination for tubercle bacilli was negative. The physical signs were as follows : Heart: right border 3 centi-metres to right of median line; left border centimetres to left ofmedian line; upper border at second rib; apex in fifth space, centi-metres outside; no murmurs.
