View N of St Kenelm's Church, Romsley, Clent Hills, England, UK, with a modern carving of Kenelm over the lychgate. A prince of Mercia killed fighting the Welsh in 821, by the C10th Kenelm had become a saintly boy martyr, & by the C13th he was a king at the age of seven murdered in the Clent Hills at the behest of his sister Quendreda, the plot revealed by a letter delivered to Rome by a dove. As Kenelm's head fell to the ground healing springs were unleashed: a spring rises underneath the church & fills a complex of pools on the hillside below. Just to the W is a holy well, often decorated with clouties.
