DORYANTHES. (Giaut Torch Lily of Australia.) Plants of extreme tropical beauty and very scarce in this country. Great ex- created in Europe when it first bloomed, owing to the gorgeousness of the flowers, which combine many colors, such as scarlet, blue and white, and are borne on immense spikes 12 feet high; foliage extremely ornamental and very decorative. Usually sold at .S3 to 85 each; largest bulbs, SI to 82 each. GLADIOLI. Set the bulbs from 6 to 9 inches deep. Plant from middle of May to first of June. In the fall before hard frosts, take up the bulbs, remove the tops, leave them to dry in the air for a few days and store in some cool place,secure from frost, until GladioU. The Gladiolus is becoming exceedingly popular everywhere, and while no flower has shown such wonderful improvement in the twenty years past, none has shown such rapid advancement in public favor.
