Fontaine d’Eau Chaude is also called Mossy Fountain or Fontaine – the first fountain built on the Cours Mirabeau, this mid-17th century Fountain of Hot Water takes its name from the thermal water sourced from the hot springs of Bagniers. For many years local housewives were forbidden to wash their clothes here as the warm waters were better for doing laundry, though the waters were used to clean the area. The fountain’s nickname fontaine moussue refers to the moss that covers it.
