Sitting Bull (c. 1831-1890), born Tatanka Iyotake, was a Hunkpapa Lakota chief known for his resistance against expansionist policies. He led the Oceti Sakowin (Sioux) tribes in their struggle against settlers on the northern Great Plains. Notably, he helped defeat troops at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. Despite his victories, famine eventually forced him to surrender. He remains a symbol of traditional Sioux values and resistance
