Sayer Almshouses, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire,dating from 1684, are a single storey row of red brick houses, with the arms of John Sayer on the front. They were built to provide “habitation for six poor widows”. John Sayer was chief cook to King Charles II. When he died he left a gift of £1000 for almshouses and the relief of the poor in Berkhamsted.
