The plant is of such rapid growth that it may be cut for green fodder at least four times in the season. Il has about the same feeding value as green mustard, or mangold, or turnip-tops, and is recommended to dairy-farmers as a change of food for their cattle. Being a very deep-rooted plant, it is far less liable than plants of more super- ficial growth to be affected by drought, and it is therefore Ijeiiig cultivated in India. Another jioint in its favour is its enormous yield, which in the green state is said to be upwards of SO tons jier or from two to Fig. 58 — Fi-OWER OF Comfrey.
